An Alternative to Waves and Wave-Packets

Classical and Quantum Mechanics invoke waves, wave-packets and particles to provide physical interpretations to electromagnetic phenomena. However, these illustrations are neither supposed to be taken literally nor are they advertised as genuinely depicting the real world. Their sole purpose is to represent invisible interactions classically in order to provide a measure of physicality to the mathematical descriptions. It is thus that certain experiments are simulated with extended waves and others with discrete wave-packets. Duality raises questions as to the ad hoc nature of the representation and to the usefulness of abstractions as didactic and explanatory tools. Here we suggest that light has been misdiagnosed. We propose an alternative model that provides a faithful physical interpretation to the fundamental properties of light. We replace the electromagnetic wave with a two-strand rope and simulate the wave-packet as a torsion propagating from atom to atom along this twined entity. The fundamental assumption is that all atoms in the Universe are interconnected. The rope hypothesis justifies and simulates basic features and behaviors of light such as straightness, speed, and orthogonality, and merges light with gravity into a single mechanism.

Extrinsic agents such as extraterrestrial impacts and disease will not cause the extinction of Man, but rather the collapse of his artificial economy. We argue that there is no productive category of the economy beyond the Service Sector in which to shift the global work force. As the Agriculture, Manufacturing, and Service Sectors continue to shed workers in a bid to reduce costs, this inevitably feeds Unemployment. A global economic regime in which an ever decreasing pool of workers subsidizes an ever growing army of unemployed is axiomatically unsustainable and conduces to system breakdown. That fateful day, profit-minded agricultural corporations will have no further incentive to produce food or deliver it to the cities.

  • We are the Last Generation of Humans on Earth! (2010) [Updated 7 years ago]

(Presented at the Moving Forward Conference, Aberdeen University, Aberdeen, Scotland, July 28, 2010)

Current biological, environmental and economic models make no provision for the extinction of humans. However, it is merely necessary to contemplate the effect on our species of a global economic collapse. We ponder the hypothetical scenario where we eliminate all jobs and money with a magic wand. The agricultural corporations which heretofore produced and delivered the bulk of food to towns and cities suddenly have no further incentives to do so. Blind-sided billions are caught stranded on urban islands expecting the cyclical economy to ?pick up again' as it always has. Meanwhile, the biological clock ticks as provisions fail to appear by the same magic on supermarket shelves. Indeed, even potable water no longer flows from kitchen sinks. The last reserves run out. The last animals are slaughtered. And then the ancient ?Custom of the Sea' takes its toll. Widespread cannibalism provides the coup-de-grace, a natural mechanism that ensures the exponential self-destruction of the last of the hominids.

Further analysis reveals that a magic wand is unnecessary to trigger this unthinkable scenario. What is required is for Man to exhaust the last fiscal remedies as he is doing now. We argue that a mass extinction is not the result of extraterrestrial impacts, infighting, climate change, disease or the arrival of a formidable predator, but of a geologically sudden overturning of the ecological pyramid: the many chasing after the few. The inevitable, imminent disappearance of our species renders climate change, conservation, economic recovery, and sustainability moot.

We propose a physical model that provides a rational interpretation to the fundamental properties of light. The Rope Hypothesis justifies and simulates basic features and behaviors such as straightness, speed, and orthogonality and merges light with gravity into a single mechanism.

  • Light: Neither Particle nor Transverse Wave (2005) [Updated 7 years ago]
by Bill Gaede   read the paper:

Statistics, variables and equations, and concepts such as energy, force and field tell us nothing about the architectures of light, the atom, and the Universe. The mathematical theories of General and Special Relativity and of Classical and Quantum Mechanics deal exclusively with relations and concepts, and are therefore powerless to describe the shape of physical objects. To discern the architecture of an invisible entity we must merely venture an assumption and logically check whether the proposal explains observation. Pursuant to this method, we show architectures of light, the atom, and the Universe that rebuff the abstractions (photon, wave, duality, wave-packet, etc.) inferred by Classical and Quantum Mechanics.

  • What is an Object? (2003) [Updated 7 years ago]
by Bill Gaede   read the paper:

Physics cannot be conducted without a proper definition of the word 'object'. Here I show that current misconceptions about this word, as well as about the scientific method, are the root of invalid hypotheses in Physics.
