I became a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of Chemistry in 1969, and did several years of industrial research, particularly into the vacuum deposition of high molecular weight polymers. As the UK's industrial base had started shrinking at that time, my employers, BISRA (British Iron and Steel Research Association) was wrapped up. I then left active science and took a desk job working for the UK government.
I have been interested in science and philosophy all my life and, having taken retirement in 2005, now indulge myself in more-or-less full-time personal study
