WATERTOWN - Richard J. Carey Jr., 44, of 20 Riverside St., Watertown, formerly of Lunenburg, died Saturday at Burbank Hospital, Fitchburg, after a long battle with cancer. He leaves his mother, Priscilla (Morley) Carey of Fitchburg; a brother, Christopher J. Carey of Aptos, Calif.; three sisters, Mary-Pat Capel of New York, Rosamond Carey of Natick and Priscilla Carey of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; a nephew; and a special friend, Kristin Ruggiero of Cambridge. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Richard J. Carey Sr., and lived here for 10 years.
He was a 1970 graduate of Lunenburg High School and earned a bachelor?s degree in computer science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1974. He studied at the graduate level at Boston University. He was a computer engineer with Motorola, Mansfield, for more than 20 years. He was an avid reader and student of the history of mathematics.
A private funeral service will held in Lunenburg Chapel of Sawyer-Miller Funeral Homes, 763 Massachusetts Ave., Lunenburg. Burial will be in North Cemetery, Lunenburg. There are no calling hours.
