Description

A widely held belief in the scientific community is that new scientific findings and ideas will be fairly evaluated based on their merits and qualities. Such beliefs suggest that new ideas will be vetted by qualified reviewers and that new models, when found superior to the existing models, will prevail and receive acceptance. This belief, however, does not account for personal biases and beliefs each scientist holds, and that must be overcome in order for him to consider the idea in the first place. Many ideas are never considered by these scientists because they not presented in an acceptable way, or are presented in ways lead the reviewer to question the presenters credibility. Neither of these barriers has anything to do with the writing skills, or the academic or professional qualifications of the presenter. Yet, these are real barriers that must be overcome if the idea is to receive the attention of the broader scientific community. This presentation looks at Strategic Approaches for facilitating the acceptance of new ideas within the broader scientific community. Following the presentation, the reader should have a better understanding of tools, techniques and approaches that can help improve the delivery and acceptance of their ideas and findings by the mainstream scientific community.
