About a Gedankenexperiment to Test the Conceptual Foundations of Quantum Mechanics
Year: 1989
Keywords: experiment, quantum mechanics, conclusions, epistemological observations
In this communication an experiment proposed by Karl Popper to test the Copenaghen interpretation of quantum mechanics is revisited. It is shown that the interpretation that Popper suggests of the possible outcomes of the experiment is clearly in contradiction with the rules of the quantum formalism.
This critical consideration has already been developed, in a general way, in the past (1). The following notes are the result of fruitful discussions with the author of ref.1. A simpler derivation of the conclusions obtained in ref.1 is presented together with some epistemological observations concerning the actual debate about the conceptual foundations of quantum mechanics.
